Reiki has always existed and is within all of us, it is the "Life Force" energy that animates all living beings and things in the Universe as we know it.
Reiki was rediscovered in 1922 by Buddhist Monk, Mikao Usui, while he was on his 21-day intentional fasting, meditating and praying practice traversing Mount Kurama. On the 21st day, Mikao received the energy known as Reiki and developed the healing technique. Mikao spent 7 years performing healing miracles and realized that it would be far better to teach others how to heal themselves. Mikao went to teach Reiki to over 2,000 students in his lifetime in Japan, and the practice eventually made its way to the Western part of the world in 1937.
Fast forward to our current and modern world, there are many different styles, types, and lineages of Reiki, and now there are over 1 million+ practitioners (and continuing to grow) of all faiths and cultures worldwide. Reiki helps promote relaxation, reduces anxiety and stress, and opens up an opportunity for the body to restore and heal itself. Reiki has become a recognized complementary healing practice in numerous clinics, hospitals, and hospice programs.
What is Reiki?
Answer: Reiki is the combination of two Japanese words, "Rei" and "Ki". "Rei" can be translated as "Universal Life," and "Ki" can be translated as "Energy". Reiki is the life force energy that animates everything in the Universe as we know it.
What happens during an in-person Reiki session?
Answer: You will meet with me to talk about any questions, concerns, or intentions you have about your session. Once all communication has been exchanged, you will lie down on the massage table, fully clothed, ready to rest and relax. I channel the energy of Reiki into various energy locations on the body.
How Does Distance Reiki Work?
Answer: Level II Reiki practitioners are trained to remotely administer Reiki energy to someone/something in a different location than the physical location of the practitioner. Distance Reiki transcends time and space, as everything is energy, and we are all "one" essentially. The practitioner connects with the client's energetic essence and can send distance Reiki to the client.
What should I expect while receiving Reiki?
Answer: The experience is different for everyone, and no session is similar. Clients tend to feel highly relaxed, to the point of falling into a light daydream/sleep. Sensations of coolness, warmth, or tingling may be felt upon various parts of the body. Visualization may occur (seeing color, images, and symbols). Some clients do not see or feel a thing, which is also fine and normal.
Can Reiki be complementary to medical treatment?
Answer: I, as a Reiki practitioner, do not diagnose conditions nor prescribe or perform medical treatment, prescribe substances, nor interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional. Reiki can complement any medical or psychological care you may be receiving.
